It was about three months ago when we saw Hyundai give the Elantra a triangular makeover. Looking more upscale and sophisticated than before, the 2019 Elantra ditches curvaceous lines for a sharper and more angular look.
Now, it's the turn of the high-performance sedan to receive the daring redesign. Making its official reveal is the 2019 Elantra Sport, a souped-up version of the compact four-door that comes with more aggressive looks as well as a turbocharged engine.
Gone are the sweeping headlights and the flowing front grill design on the 2019 Elantra Sport. Replacing them are a pair of triangular-shaped headlights and a more radical-looking Cascading Grill painted in black. Also present are new side skirts, huge 18-inch alloy wheels and a dual exhaust pipe finished in chrome.
Step inside, the updated Elantra Sport comes with sport bucket seats, carbon fiber trim pieces, flat-bottomed leather steering wheel and door sill plates. A choice of red or black leather upholstery can be had in the 2019 Elantra Sport.
At the heart of the 2019 Elantra Sport is the carried-over 1.6-liter turbocharged Gamma inline-four. It generates 204 PS along with 265 Nm of torque. Like its predecessor, the refreshed Elantra Sport can be mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that drives the front wheels.
Besides having a turbocharged heart, Hyundai was also busy tweaking its chassis.Unlike the standard Elantra which has a torsion beam rear suspension, the Elantra Sport comes with a multi-link setup which aids in delivering better handling. It also gets bigger disc brakes that help in slowing down the sedan quicker.
