Range Rover Evoque Convertible goes official
After teasing the motoring public with aluminum wireframe models last October, Land Rover has officially revealed the Evoque Convertible. Billed by the automaker as the world's first luxury compact convertible SUV, the Evoque Convertible combines the brand's renowned luxurious design and off-road prowess.
Starting with the exterior, the 2-door soft-top carries over the Evoque's design with its sleek front fascia, muscular side profile and distinct rear. The centerpiece of the SUV is its folding fabric roof that Land Rover claims is the longest and widest currently fitted to any vehicle on sale today.
The Z-folding roof can be deployed in 21 seconds and will stow away in 18 seconds at speeds of up to 48 km/h. It was designed in such a way that it maintains the original silhouette. Available only in Ebony Black, the new Evoque Convertible however introduces new exterior finishes: Waitomo Gray and Baltoro Ice.
Even with the addition of a folding roof, Land Rover claims it still has high quality sound insulation on par with standard Evoques, along with a decent 251-liter storage space at the back.
Also new aboard the Evoque Convertible is a 10.2-inch touchscreen system that is powered by Jaguar Land Rover's latest 'InControl Touch Pro' infotainment system. Besides managing all of the infotainment features, it also supports smartphone integration, door-to-door navigation, 3G connectivity and a premium audio system.
In terms of safety, the automaker also installed a Roll-Over Protection device (RPD). In an event where the SUV will topple over, two aluminum roll bars will deploy within 90 milliseconds at the rear of the SUV to provide added protection for passengers.
Available engines for the Evoque Convertible will still be the all-aluminum inline-fours that are available in either gasoline- or diesel-power. The turbocharged 2.0-liter Ingenium engine puts out 240 PS while the 2.2-liter turbo-diesel is available in two output ratings; 150 PS and 190 PS.
Other features available in the soft top SUV include: four-wheel drive, 9-speed automatic gearbox, adaptive LED headlights, optional 12-speaker Meridian sound system, Andriod Auto/Apple CarPlay integration and the Terrain Response System.
