Ford Philippines isn't done updating the 2021 Ranger. After revealing the standard facelifted model several weeks ago, the automaker has launched a new special edition model. It is the FX4 Max, and it's more than just a dress-up kit for the Ranger.
While it may share its name with the standard FX4, the Max version is inspired by the Raptor. The FX4 Max gets an uprated suspension that consists of monotube Fox shock absorbers in both the front and rear axles. It also has a modified leaf spring at the back that Ford claims will provide greater compliance off-road while also delivering balanced payload and towing capability.
Besides having an improved suspension system, Ford also ensured the FX4 Max has loads of power under the hood. Like the Ranger Raptor and the Wildtrak Rangers, the FX4 Max comes with a 2.0-liter Bi-Turbo diesel inline-four that generates 213 PS at 3750 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 1750 - 2000 rpm. Power is sent to a 10-speed automatic transmission, complete with 4WD capability. Ford says that the FX4 Max can carry 981 kg worth of payload. Towing capacity is at 3,500 kg.
As far as looks are concerned, the FX4 Max gets a bevy of rugged styling enhancements. It gets a massive black front grille, a full-length sports bar for the bed, metal side steps, and 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich all-terrain tires. The interior, meanwhile, gets leather seats with carbon-suede inserts as standard, FX4 Max embroidery, all-weather floor mats, sports pedals, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. A touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes as standard, along with dual-zone automatic climate control.
As a bonus, the FX4 Max gets an auxiliary switch pack. It will allow owners to connect and operate auxiliary accessories and features seamlessly. It even gets a 250A alternator to provide power to multiple accessories without relying solely on the battery.
“The FX4 MAX builds on the success of the Ranger as a rugged and versatile pickup while harnessing the winning off-roading capabilities of the Ranger Raptor. True to our Live the Ranger Life philosophy, the FX4 MAX caters to customers who are up for challenges and go over the horizon to experience their adventure of a lifetime with the pickup truck’s uncompromising blend of toughness and power,” said PK Umashankar, president and managing director, Ford Philippines.
The 2021 Ford Ranger FX4 Max is now available in all Ford dealerships nationwide with a launch price of PHP 1,698,000. It comes in six unique colors; Arctic White, Absolute Black, Aluminum Metallic, Blue Lighting, Meteor Gray, and True Red.
