The compact competitor from Chevrolet gets an upgrade as the company recently revealed the facelifted Cruze at the 2015 Big Motor Sale in Bangkok, Thailand. First revealed by the bow-tie brand during the 2014 New York Auto Show, the 2015 Cruze gets a revised exterior, a more comfortable cabin and a new 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Una Tan, Director of Marketing and Customer Experience of Chevrolet Sales Thailand (CST), stated that the 2015 is not just a facelift, but a 'conscious effort in making a good product even better'.
“To date, Chevrolet has sold more than 3.5 million units of Cruze since it went on sale in 2008. It is known for its edgy, sophisticated exterior, plush interior and above all, a highly-responsive driving dynamics. It was a challenge to do it better, and we overcame it,” said Tan.
Tan also stated that the compact sedan will also cater to drivers who want a sporty yet luxury vehicle.
“It will in no doubt underline its position as Chevrolet’s best-selling global compact car,” added Tan.
Starting with the exterior, the front end now features a dual port grill design, restyled headlights and daytime-running lights. Moving to the rear, the taillights have been reworked as well and now resemble the ones used in the Camaro according to Chevrolet. Completing the exterior updates of the 2015 Cruze is a set of new 17-inch alloy wheels.
Changes inside the compact sedan were kept at a minimum apart from a new interior color scheme called 'Saddle Up' and more ergonomic switches. The infotainment system on the other hand has been improved as it now uses a 7-inch touchscreen that comes with Chevrolet’s MyLink. It has built-in App technology, refined voice control and Bluetooth connectivity.
Under the hood, the Cruze is still powered by the familiar 1.8-liter ECOTEC inline-four that benefits from Double Continuous Cam Phasing (DVC) and Variable Intake Manifold (VIM) which optimizes intake and exhaust settings across engine speeds. Output-wise, it generates 141 PS at 6,200 rpm along with 177 Nm of torque available at 3,800 rpm.
With a re-calibrated ECU, the compact's Flex-Fuel system has been improved as well. The engine's computer can automatically adjust its fuel flow and ignition timing, depending whether the car is running on pure gasoline or with up to 85% Ethanol.
All of that power is then transferred to the front wheels via a second-generation GF6 6-speed automatic gearbox that Chevrolet claimed delivers smoother gear changes and quicker throttle response.
Other features present in the updated 2015 Cruze include: Passive Entry Passive Start keyless entry system (PEPS), steering-mounted audio controls and automatic headlights and windshield wipers. Over to safety, it has anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), traction control and side beams for better protection against side impacts.
For the Thai market, the 2015 Cruze will be available in two variants:
1.8 LT - THB 946,000
1.8 LTZ - THB 998,000
All models available in Thailand are patterned after the Korean version of the Cruze. Furthermore, it will most likely be the same one that will be offered here in the Philippines soon.
