Toyota Motors Philippines' (TMP) best selling model will be getting an upgrade this year after the company recently confirmed that the 2016 Vios will be making its local debut come July 18.

First revealed in Thailand several months ago, the B-segment sedan will get a new line of engines that aim to deliver better response and fuel economy. Replacing the outgoing 1NZ-FE is the 2NR-FE. It also displaces 1.5-liters but now comes with Dual VVT-i.

The 1.3-liter engine, on the other hand, will also be replaced with a new NR engine.

The 4-speed automatic gearbox will be succeded by a new continiously variable transmssion (CVT). It will come with a 7-speed manual mode and is aimed to further improve the sedan's fuel efficiency. A 5-speed manual gearbox will also be available.
