Following its debut at the 2017 North American International Auto Show, the updated Mercedes-Benz GLA arrives in the Philippines. For the 2018 model year, the GLA gets a refreshed exterior design and a revamped interior. The GLA is the third New Generation Compact Car (NGCC) to receive an update following the A-Class and CLA.
Changes made to the exterior are relatively minor. At the front, the 2018 GLA's tweaked front end boasts a new grill, as well as a pair of headlights with a new LED light signature. Another tweak is the lower half of the bumper, which sees a new slimmer and wider air intake. Also, the corners of the front bumper have been reshaped, giving it more defined edges.
The side profile of the GLA is carried over from the pre-facelift model with no changes. Towards the rear however, Mercedes-Benz gave the crossover darker tail light surrounds. Like the front, the rear gets a new bumper, eliminating the air outlets of the outgoing model. Rounding up the changes are a new set of alloy wheel designs. Mercedes Benz Philippines offers two variants for the GLA, the GLA 180 and GLA 200 AMG.
Inside, there is a revamped COMAND infotainment system, now boasting new software and functionality. The center stack has also been redesigned which now has flush-fitting buttons. From the driver's seat, one can also see the tweaked instrument cluster with enhanced graphics.
There are two engines available in the updated GLA. In the GLA 180, it is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine which produces 122 PS and 200 Nm of torque. For the top of the line GLA 200 AMG, it gets a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that puts out 156 PS and 250 Nm of torque. It then shifts via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Power is sent to all four wheels via Mercedes-Benz's 4Matic all-wheel drive.
Prices for the 2018 Mercedes GLA are as follows:
GLA 180 Urban: PHP 2,790,000
GLA 200 AMG: PHP 3,090,000
