After making its debut during the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the updated Ford EcoSport is now available in Europe. Billed by the automaker as a 'significantly enhanced' compact, the refreshed EcoSport features several improvements like better sound deadening, new interior trim and features, reworked suspension and the option of having the rear-mounted spare wheel omitted.
As a way to make the the mini crossover have a more premium feel, the updated EcoSport can now be had without a rear spare wheel. Models that do not carry the fifth wheel will come with a tire mobility kit as standard. The rear-swing tailgate has been revised as well to allow better access for partial opening in situations where space is minimal.
Other exterior add-ons applied to the crossover include: front diffuser, rear diffuser, redone taillights and clear-lens rear foglights.
Inside, the lower instrument panel, center console and door trim are all finished in Charcoal Black while Titanium variants of the crossover get partial leather seats as standard. A new steering wheel design, relocated handbrake lever and additional chrome trim has also been applied in the cabin. Models that will get Ford's SYNC voice-controlled connectivity system will come with a 4-inch monitor that will be placed at the center console.
Moreover, the instrument cluster features a chrome ring trim and a new light dimming function. Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) has been improved according to Ford as they installed thicker sound deadening materials in the dashboard and door seals. A Rear View Camera and navigation system will be available soon as optional extras.
Engines are likely carried over from the pre-facelift version though the 1.5-liter TDCI diesel engine offered in Europe develops 5 PS more as it is now rated at 95 PS. The suspension was also given attention as it now comes with new springs, dampers and rear torsion beam. Ford states that the new components reduced ride height by 10mm and improves overall handling.
