Volkswagen's workhorse pickup has been updated for 2016 and gets discreet styling revisions, along with a new turbo-diesel engine that the company claimed will deliver more pulling power.
Only previously available with two 2.0-liter TDIs and a 2.0-liter TSI, the 2016 Amarok can now be driven by a Euro 6 compliant 3.0-liter TDI V6. When launched, it will be available in three power ratings; 163 PS, 204 PS and 224 PS. The most powerful version gets a maximum torque figure of 550 Nm at 1,500 rpm, dwarfing the 2.0-liter twin-turbo TDI that only produced 179 PS and 420 Nm of torque.
Transmission options for the 2016 Amarok include an 8-speed automatic gearbox and a 6-speed manual transmission. Depending on the model, the pickup can be specified with RWD 4WD or AWD drivetrains. Manual variants get a traditional 4x4 4Motion system while automatic models are fitted with an AWD version of Volkswagen's 4Motion.
As for its exterior redesign, the 2016 Amarok gets new front and rear bumpers, bigger air intakes, HID bi-Xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and 20-inch alloy wheels. For the flatbed, Volkswagen will provide a myriad of bed covers, hard tops and even roll bars.
Images of the interior were not provided but Volkswagen claimed it will a more car-like cabin. It benefits from new sporty front seats and redesigned dashboard added Volkswagen. Moreover, high-end models will even come with Park Distance Control with reverse camera while all variants will have Automatic-Post Collision Braking System.
It is slated to go on sale in September.
