Last April, Renault Sport launched the #Under8 campaign and vowed to set a new lap record at the 2014 Nurburgring.

The automaker stood to its promise as the Megane R.S. 275 Trophy-R special edition managed to add a third lap record at Nurburgring’s legendary Nordscheife to its list of achievements.

Renault established records with Megane R26.R in 2008 and Megane R.S. Trophy in 2011, but the engineers at Renault Sport were not content as the Megane R.S. posted a new lap time of 7 minutes and 54.36 seconds.

Compared to the standard RS 275 Trophy, the R version is almost 100 kg lighter because the rear seats were removed as well as most of the sound-absorbing and insulating materials. The automaker also equipped the R version with a smaller battery and lighter Recaro bucket seats. Furthermore, the radio and the air conditioning system were also removed.
