Renault will soon join the hotly-contested hot hatch segment once again with the all-new Megane RS. The French automaker has been busy of late testing the high-performance hatchback out in the snow and has since released new photos of the upcoming Megane RS in prototype form.

With the light camo, we are able to see the Megane RS' distinct styling. The front fascia is dominated by large headlights that flank towards the uniquely-shaped grill. It also comes with LED corner lights that appear to mimic the look of a checkered flag. There are also large vents that could channel cooling air towards the brakes.

Around the back, we see huge horizontal taillights along with a large diffuser and a trapezoidal exhaust pipe. We also get to see what look like rear corner foglights and an integrated spoiler on top of the tailgate.

Details about the car's interior remain a mystery but it could come with carbon fiber and Alcantara upholstery. Bolstered bucket seats could also make their way inside the 2018 Megane RS.

Over to its powertrain, rumors are going around that it could come with a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder derived from the recently revealed Alpine A110. It is expected to generate around 300 PS and may be connected to a manual or dual-clutch tranmission.

When launched, it is set to go against the likes of the Honda Civic Type R, Peugeot 308 GTI and Volkswagen Golf R.
