It appears that downsizing and turbocharging will also be applied on Shelby's high performance muscle cars as Automobile Magazine recently reported that the next-gen Shelby Mustang GT500 may be fitted with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6.
Not stating that the V8 will be omitted, a twin turbocharged V6 will most likely make sense on the GT500 as the engine is expected to be derived from the new-generation Ford GT that first debuted during the 2015 North American International Auto Show. In keeping with the traditional GT500, the 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox would have to be replaced with a 6-speed manual transmission.
A Shelby GT500 that puts out 608 PS or more looks good in theory and in production but will not be for everyone's liking as the pony car is relatively known with a supercharged V8 under the hood.
