Toyota has revealed a new B-segment sedan in the form of the Yaris Ativ. In essenece, the Yaris Ativ is the brand's other version of the well-known Vios. While it is still based on the popular B-segment sedan, it gets its own unique sheetmetal and a different engine. Toyota has released a teaser video of the Yaris Ativ and details of the sedan have also surfaced online.
Just like the car seen in the spy photos, the Yaris Ativ features a curvier, more aggressive look when compared to its Vios counterpart. At the front are slimmer, upswept wraparound headlights complemented by a thin grill. A large air intake occupies most of the bumper's area while upswept pieces of trim serve as its foglight housings.
The unique sheetmetal continues on to its side. Its doors sees more character lines while the rear door now features an upwards kink towards the trunk of the car. As for the rear, the Yaris Ativ gets a different set of tail lights, significantly longer than the ones found in the Vios. Overall, the Yaris Ativ uses little of the Vios' panels.
Further separating the Yaris Ativ from the Vios is its engine. Instead of the 1.3 and 1.5-liter options, this particular car is powered by a 1.2-liter engine. While no specifics have been mentioned yet, Power is expected at the 90 PS mark. The reason for the 1.2-liter engine is for the Yaris Ativ to be included in Thailand's Eco Car program.
While the Yaris Ativ has been uncovered, there was also a Yaris hatch spied sporting camouflage in Thailand a month ago. With a clearer picture of the sedan, it appears that the hatch might just get the same look as the Ativ. It is also possible that the Yaris Ativ serves as a preview of what the Yaris hatch might look like once launched.
A very likely launch date and venue would be at the upcoming Big Motor Sale event on August 19 at BITEC.
