In a report by enthusiast site BMW Blog, the BMW M2 will be launched online by October and will likely make its first public appreance in the the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. Motor1.com also reports that BMW will be releasing teasers for the high performance model in the coming weeks.
BMW last made a high performance compact coupe in 2011 in the form of the 1 Series M. The 1 M, as enthusiasts call it, was a limited run model with just 6,309 cars built. It seems likely that the M2 will be made in higher number like the other standard production BMW M models.
Based on initial reports, the BMW M2 will be powered by the same S65 engine found in the M3 and M4 but will have lower power outputs. Outputs have been estimated at 370 PS and 456 Nm of torque. Like all BMW M models, top speed will be electronically limited to 250 km/h.
Official delivery dates for BMW M's compact coupe have yet to be confirmed.
