Report: BMW planning Z4 successor to be launched before 2020

The next-gen Z4 could be co-developed with Toyota

In a report by Automotive News Europe, BMW has announced plans to launch a successor to the Z4 before the end of the decade.

BMW head of development Klaus Fröhlich told Automotive News Europe that he hopes to replace the Z4 within the next five years. Fröhlich added that BMW could share the development costs with Toyota as part of the ongoing collaboration between the two automaker.

Fröhlich goes on by saying that the global demand for two-seater roadster is going down and that the world's largest car market, China, is not interested with the said kind of vehicle.

With this, the development for the Z4's successor is not a priority for the German automaker. However, Fröhlich hopes to see a Z4 successor before 2020.
