With most automakers nowadays introducing some form of autonomous or self-driving tech into their cars, the near future may soon be populated by cars that can take us to our destinations without needing to drive them. But don't expect a Huracan or Aventador to come with this sort of technology in the next few years.

Compared to other car brands that are getting in on the self-driving tech bandwagon, Lamborghini is steadfast in keeping with tradition in building supercars purpose-built for driving. Maurizio Reggiani, head of research and development at Lamborghini, stated that they will be the last brand to offer such tech.

“If you buy a Lamborghini, you buy it to have fun and enjoy the driving. If we’re talking real autonomous driving, I think we will be the last brand to offer it,” added Reggiani.

To put it plainly, Lamborghini is not busying itself in trying to make a self-driving supercar as it deviates from what the brand is known for.

However, when it came to the brand's upcoming crossover, the Urus, it will come with several driver assist systems and other safety tech. This comes as no surprise since the Urus will be heavily based off the all-new Audi Q7 which gets the same level of features.

“We will have adaptive cruise control, we will have a camera, we will have lane-keeping systems. Every feature available in a premium car will be available in the Urus, but nothing that comes close to real autonomous driving,” said Reggiani.

Apart from that, Lamborghini is also working on improving in-car connectivity which they plan to introduce in the production version of the Urus. It will be a dedicated system and will be unlike any current system offered in the market today added Reggiani.

Report: Lamborghini has no plans of making self-driving cars soon

Do expect however future Lamborghinis to come with hybrid powertrains. During the 2014 Paris Motor Show, Lamborghini revealed the Asterion LPI 910-4 hybrid concept which is powered by a 5.2-liter V10 that is helped along by two electric motors. It has a total system output of 910 PS and can reach a top speed of 310 km/h. 0 – 100 km/h is clocked at 3 seconds.

While no production version is due to be built, the technologies from the Asterion concept will most likely be used on a completely different model altogether.
