The more accessible AMG Sport monicker has apparently been axed after Car & Driver reported that all current AMG Sport models will be treated as proper Mercedes-AMG cars.
The lineup of AMG Sport cars are already packed with chassis and powertrain upgrades compared to standard models. They were only differentiated from classic AMGs which have the latest and most advanced powertrain technologies developed by the renowned tuning division of Mercedes-Benz.
One AMG Sport model, the C450 AMG, will now be called the Mercedes-AMG C43. Other models will soon follow.
Beside the boost in performance, all AMG Sport models get exclusive badging, red stitching in its interior and carbon fiber equipment.
Originally, the AMG-Sport series was meant to bridge the gap between the AMG Sports Package and classic AMG cars. This was the company's answer after they were able to widen their product range and attract new customers.
