Volkswagen has recently been showing off it's forthcoming all-electric I.D. line. The German automaker has already given us a preview of their next-generation EVs in the form of three concepts – the I.D, I.D. Cross, and the I.D. Buzz. However, we may soon be getting two more models for Volkswagen's EV line, one of which is said to make it' s debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show.
Klaus Bischoff, Volkswagen design chief, has revealed that a zero-emmission sedan is slated for a surprise debut at the show. The sedan is said to have already impressed people inside the VW Group. Meanwhile, Greg Lucia, Director Experiential Marketing at VW Group of America, adds that another I.D.-badged sedan is also in the pipeline. Both Lucia and Bischoff, did not give any other details regarding the electric sedans however.
“I was just at this event in Berlin and we’ve got an amazing amount of product coming down the pipeline, a lot of it electric, a lot of it SUV. “I saw two sedans under the I.D. platform. First time ever,” said Lucia.
All I.D.-badged models ride on the MEB platform, a dedicated electric platform which will soon find its way to other EVs produced by Volkswagen and its group brands such as Audi. The first I.D. production model to use the new platform is said to likely arrive around 2020.
A previously leaked official slideshow shows that Volkswagen is set to add two new models to the I.D. line, but only one of which looks like a sedan called the I.D. AEROe. The other model appears to look more like an SUV is called the I.D. Lounge, unlike the two sedans mentioned aboved. At this point, it unclear whether both concepts shown in the leaked slideshow will go into production or even be presented to the public.
