Volkswagen to refresh brand image with new logo, launch global creative ad agency

For the first time since 2012, Volkswagen AG could have a new logo as it prepares for the introduction of its electric car line up. The new logo is expected to be revealed next year, ahead of the brand's shift to electrification and planned roll out of the all-electric I.D. models by 2020 and beyond.

In a report by Bloomberg, Jochen Sengpiehl, the brand’s chief marketing officer said that the new logo will be updated for their cars and for smartphone screens; presumably for an app. In comparison, the 2012 update on the logo was very subtle, only giving it a more three-dimensional look. Furthermore, the change in Volkswagen's logs since the brand was resurrected back in 1939 are only modest compared to changes made to other automaker's logos.

If Volkswagen unveils the new logo, they hope that it could help give the brand a new, fresh image. More specifically, it could help highlight the technically innovations of the VW brand, bringing in more customers for their upcoming electric vehicles.

To help boost the brand's image all-over the world, the Volkswagen Group is also said to be launching a new agency to handle their creative ads globally. The agency will supposedly centralize marketing and promote the brand's shift into electrification. According to Sengpiehl, he also wants to have multiple regional hubs in Europe, China, North America, South America and the rest of the world.
