Don't have an RFID sticker on your vehicle just yet? Just a friendly reminder, it's nearly mid-November, and the tollways are ready to shift to a full cashless system starting December 1, 2020, as mandated by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
But what if you're unable to get an RFID tag before the deadline? Whether it be Easytrip or Autosweep, there's no need to worry.
The DOTr announced that even after the December 1 deadline, RFID sticker installations will continue. Just because the deadline arrives doesn't mean RFID sticker installations will stop as well. It's to benefit first-time motorists, new car owners, and anyone who will use the tollways for the first time. Simply put, the dreaded December 1 deadline set by the government agency signifies the start of the full cashless transaction system at tollways.
So if you still haven't secured an RFID sticker from AutoSweep or EasyTrip, there's no need to panic once December 1 rolls around. But just because RFID installation will continue doesn't mean you should slack off in getting one. Motorists caught using the expressways without RFIDs will be apprehended and penalized.
As a reminder, AutoSweep will only conduct RFID installation via an on-appointment basis to prevent exceptionally long lines at designated toll plazas amid the pandemic. Those that need to schedule an appointment can go to this link.
EasyTrip, on the other hand, has also launched an online-based appointment system for RFID installation called ORRAS. But unlike AutoSweep, only a select number of installation sites are currently accepting appointments. That means that motorists can still line up at certain toll plazas to get an EasyTrip RFID sticker. Those that want to set an appointment can click on this link.
In case you don't know where to get one, we also provided an updated list of where to secure one, along with Google Maps links of the 24-hour installation sites.
