DOTr-TRB inks MOA with NLEX and DPWH for Marilao East Service Road project

Motorists that frequently travel to and from Marilao, Bulacan will be able to take advantage of a new service road in the future.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Toll Regulatory Board signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the NLEX Corporation, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and the Marilao municipal gov't to start work on the Marilao East Service Road project.

Under the MOA, NLEX Corporation will allow DPWH Region 3 to use its right-of-way (ROW) for the Marilao East Service Road Project. It will occupy a portion of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), which will start from Barcelona Academy Inc. in Brgy Lias and will end at the Mario Santiago Road in Marilao, Bulacan.

“Transportation means accessibility. Accessibility also means convenience. They go hand in hand. Kaya sa kahit anumang paraan na makatutulong tayo, sa paraang makapagbibigay tayo ng ginhawa sa ating mga kababayan, hindi po magdadalawang isip ang Kagawaran,” said DOTr Secretary Tugade.

For Marilao Mayor Ricardo Silvestre, the new access road will provide a more direct route to and from the aforementioned areas. More importantly, it will ease the expanding traffic volume at Meycauayan-Marilao Corridor.

NLEX Corporation president J. Luigi L. Bautista adds that they are more than happy to help the two municipalities have improved accessibility.

“This project will ultimately benefit the public as this will provide our host communities in Meycauayan City and Marilao better connection and improved accessibility. We are more than happy to help facilitate the mobility needs of the two growing LGUs,” said Bautista.

Under the MOA, DPWH Region 3 will be tasked with shouldering the cost and expense of the road project within 300 calendar days from the issuance of Notice to Proceed. The agency is also tasked with securing work permits from NLEX Corporation and acquire a permanent ROW for the Marilao East Service Road. Once work on the road project is complete, DPWH Region 3 will turn over the ROW to NLEX Corporation.

As traffic continues to grow within the Meycauayan-Marilao Corridor, the addition of a new access road will help motorists get to their destinations in the area faster and easier.
