Around a year ago, Tesla mentioned that they were working on an all-electric pickup truck. However, no exact details were mentioned and the electric vehicle maker seems to have been quiet about it lately. That said, it seems as though Rivian will beat them to the punch in producing a pure-electric pickup truck.
Rivian will be introducing their electric pick-up first at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show later this month. Along side the electric pick-up truck, the new electric automaker will also be debuting a three-row, seven seat electric SUV called the R1S at the show.
In order to whet the public's appetite, Rivian has released a teaser video and photos of the upcoming electric pick-up truck. Called the R1T, we get to see glimpses of the truck in the video. The most noticeable feature of the electric ute would be it's front fascia which features a unique lighting fixtures with a long LED bar running that extends from end to end. Meanwhile, there are vertical slats with circular elements which would likely be the headlights.
While there is no clear shot of the rear, zooming in on the lone rear photo gives us a glimpse of the truck's taillights. Similar to the front, the taillights appear to be a one-piece LED design which runs the length of the truck bed. However it does glow in red instead of white.
For the time being, Rivian has not revealed any specific details regarding the R1S and R1T's powertrain or performance figures. The electric automaker only mentioned that both vehicles will have 'impressive on- and off-road performance figures'. They did mention however that deliveries of both models are set to begin in 2020.
The Rivian R1T and R1S will make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show which opens on November 30, 2018.
