Saleen previews 30-Year Championship Commemorative Edition Mustang
Renowned muscle car tuner Saleen will soon release a special edition Mustang that will commemorate the company's victory in the 1987 Driver, Manufacturer, Team, and Tire SCCA ESCORT Endurance Championships. Called the '30-Year Championship Commemorative Edition', the unique Mustang will be available in both street and racing versions and will be powered by a high-output V8.
The 5.0-liter V8 now benefits from a liquid cooled supercharger that displaces 3.2-liters. With it, the Mustang is capable of producing 730 PS in street version. Meanwhile, the racing version of the muscle car is rated to produce 750 PS. Apart from the powerful supercharger, both variants of the special edition Mustang will also come with a new exhaust system and a competition shifter.
Unique upgrades that will only be available for the race-ready Mustang include: rear-seat delete, four-point roll cage, four-point harness and an upgraded radiator to name a few.
In keeping with tradition, all supercharged special edition Mustang will come with Saleen trademark white wheels, custom yellow, white, and black Saleen stripes and special badges. The Racecraft Suspension system will also be reintroduced and will come with special camber caster plates.
In partnership with General Tire, who was an essential player in Saleen's success at the 1987 race, all examples of the special edition Mustang will be fitted with high-performance General Tire's G-MAX RS tires.
“We are extremely proud to introduce the first summer tire for General with such a legendary brand as Saleen. The new ultra-high performance G-MAX RS is a tire that we have been anticipating for a several years. Our dealers have asked for it and we know the market is ready for it. This new Saleen Mustang is a perfect match for the G-MAX RS,” said Travis Roffler, director of marketing at General Tire.
Production of the 30-Year Championship Commemorative Edition Mustang will begin in September 2017.
