Think Foton and immediately you think of heavy-duty commercial trucks, as well as capable pickup trucks, vans and SUVs. However, Foton is also know in making small yet practical people carriers via the Gratour series of mini trucks and MPVs.
Now, the automaker has released the refreshed Gratour Minivan which has since become slightly bigger, and a bit more powerful than its predecessor. Compared to the old model which was first released back in 2015, the new MPV can seat more, and comes with a new 1.5-liter powertrain.
From having only 7 seats, the all-new Gratour Minivan now comes with seating for 8 people. This was made possible by making the MPV's dimensions larger and installing a bigger second-row bench seat. However, Foton did say that the original 2,710mm wheelbase has been retained.
Beyond that, the Minivan now also comes with a refurbished look thanks to a bolder front grill, upswept headlights, new 14-inch alloy wheels, newly-styled taillights, and additional creases on the bodywork. And like its predecessor, it gets rear sliding doors instead of traditional hinge-type units for easier ingress / egress.
As mentioned earlier, the new Gratour Minivan does away with the old 1.2-liter engine. Instead it now has a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine which produces 114 PS and 150 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to a five-speed manual gearbox.
A wide array of safety features are available as standard on the new Gratour Minivan which includes: anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, overspeed alarm, as well as seatbelt reminders.
The 2019 Foton Gratour Minivan 1.5 retails at a budget-friendly Php 570,000.
