The electric car age is upon us and Spanish automaker SEAT is looking to join the revolution with a concept of their own. Say hello to the el-Born, a game-changing hatchback that SEAT claims will drive the necessary change for the brand.

Named after one of the most iconic neighborhoods in Barcelona, the el-Born EV concept was designed and developed in Spain and will serve as a precursor for an all-new electric model based on Volkswagen's MEB platform.

Resembling a smaller SEAT Leon, the el-Born gets a similarly-styled exterior design albeit featuring a rounder shape. It has sharp-looking headlights up front and angular-looking taillights at the back. Thanks to high roofline, the el-Born also offers plenty of headroom while still keeping its hatchback size.

The eye-catching design of the el-Born not only gives the concept its stylish looks. SEAT also mentioned that its dynamic proportions also enable the hatchback to be more agile and quick on its feet. And since it does not come with a conventional powertrain, the designers were able to push out the wheels even further for better handling and for a more "vibrant stance". Despite its small size, engineers put in huge 20-inch 'turbine-style' alloy wheels that aid in aerodynamics as well as in cooling the brakes.

Inside, the el-Born features a spacious and high-tech cabin. The center console is devoid of any gear selector which allowed designers to install additional storage space and cubby holes. Meanwhile, there's a ten-inch infotainment system on the center dashboard that features wireless connectivity features.

Giving life to the el-Born is a 204 PS electric motor that allows the hatchback to sprint from 0 – 100 km/h in only 7.5 seconds. It gets its power from a 62 kWh battery pack which translates to a cruising range of up to 420 km. Should you need to have a quick recharge, the el-Born is compatible with fast-charging systems which can recharge the batteries to 80% in as little as 47 minutes.

Not forgetting about the importance of active safety systems, SEAT also installed a level 2 autonomous feature on the EV concept. It even gets park assist which can automatically parks the vehicle.

Should the el-Born concept be greenlit for production, SEAT said that it will be built at the company's Zwickau plant in Germany. It is expected to hit global markets in 2020.
