Toyota goes off the beaten path with 4Runner Tonka concept
Toyota arrived at this year's Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) Show with a new off-road concept that also pays homage to classic Tonka Toys. Called the the 4Runner Tonka concept, Toyota, along with Funrise Toy Corporation, described the 'life-size' Tonka as the ultimate off-road adventure vehicle.
Immediately seen on the concept SUV is its new suspension system. It has a 10-inch lift kit from Bulletproof Suspension along with King 8x2.5-inch and 10x2.5-inch coilovers. The custom welded bumpers, body panels, roof rack and side steps were also manufactured by Bulletproof Suspension.
Aesthetically, the concept is finished in matte black and has yellow Tonka graphics all around. Providing the necessary grip is a set of 38x15.50R20 Baja MTZ off-road tires from Mickey Thompson. Complementing the tires are 20-inch Ultra Motorsports Type 250 Colossus wheels. Providing additional illumination is a Rigid Industries LED light bar.
Perhaps the centerpiece of the concept vehicle, according to Toyota, is the pop-up tent for outdoor enthusiasts.
Under the hood, the 4Runner Tonka concept is driven by a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated V6 which puts out 273 PS along with 376Nm of torque. All of that power is sent to all four wheels via a 5-speed automatic gearbox.
