SEMA 2016 Preview: Hyundai preps nitrous-boosted Santa Fe

Hyundai and Rockstar give the Santa Fe a power boost

Hyundai Motor America and Rockstar Performance Garage have collaborated in a project to give the Santa Fe a big shot of power. The latest tie-in sees the Santa Fe getting a boost of power with a healthy shot of nitrous-oxide.

“Rockstar conveys its endless brand energy in everything we do. Our Rockstar Santa Fe Concept is simultaneously all-show and all-go, a non-compromising concept with tremendous capabilities and a confident demeanor to match,”said Nick Ashby, lead developer of the Rockstar concept vehicle.

The customized Santa Fe's exterior is largely dominated by black with an added touch of gray and white color. Rockstar logos are placed on the rear doors and fenders. It is then fitted with a 17-inch off road bead-lock wheels along with a 35-inch off-road tires. It also has LED lighting. Meanwhile, the interior gets a roadwire custom leather design.

The Rockstar Performance Garage decided to overhaul suspension using new tie-road and control arms that allows Santa Fe to drive on off-road terrain. The team equipped the front with 2.0 King coil-overs and 2.5 King shocks at the rear. Also, to quickly stop the Santa Fe, the team used a big brake system with the six-piston calipers in front and four-piston units in the rear.

Under the hood, it is powered by a Hyundai-based 3.3L Lambda V6 engine driving all four wheels. The off-road look is further enhanced by a lift kit and all-terrain tires. Other upgrades include an AEM cold-air intake, Mishimoto cooling system, and Magnaflow exhaust.

The Rockstar Santa Fe Concept will be revealed to the public at the upcoming Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas.
