Mazda will showcase a lighter MX-5 Speedster Evolution at the upcoming 2016 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas.
We saw the featherlight MX-5 Speedster at last year's SEMA Show, and it was pretty impressive. For this year's show, the Mazda design team decided to take the concept further by giving it a 45 kg diet and giving it a fresh White Ether paintjob. Now just under 907 kg, the vehicle is approximately 159 kg lighter than a standard MX-5 with the soft top.
Mazda is also displaying the MX-5 RF Kuro concept, which is based on the 2017 MX-5 Retractable Fastback to be sold in early 2017. MX-5 RF Kuro is finished in a semi-matte metallic concept color called "Kuro," which means "charcoal". It rides on 17x7.5-inch RAYS forged wheels with 215/45R17 BFGoodrich Rival G-Force tires. The MX-5 RF Kuro is also fitted with adjustable suspension from the Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich.
Both concepts were inspired by the Mazda MX-5 Global Cup racecar, elevating the brand's iconic and lightweight sports car. They were designed and built in-house by Mazda's Design team in Irvine, California.
The Mazda MX-5 Speedster Evolution will be displayed along with the MX-5 RF Kuro at the SEMA Show from November 1 to 4, 2016.
