The all-new Lexus ES has been out in other markets for quite some time now. After a couple of months, the Japanese luxury marque's E-segment sedan has made its way to the Philippines - and it makes a dramatic entry into the local market showing off its longer, wider, and bolder sheetmetal.
Now in its seventh-generation, the 2019 Lexus ES shows the latest iteration of the L-Finesse design philosophy, drawing some styling elements from the brand's flagship, the LS. Slim, edgier headlights incorporate the L-shaped daytime running lights. A bolder, wider spindle grill takes center stage up front and features a 'waterfall' design for its slats.
Subtle creases and lines define the flanks of the big sedan and gives it a more defined, muscular stance. More creases are seen at the bottom of the rear doors and its C-shaped rear windows. Its roofline appears lower than the soon to be outgoing model, thanks in part to steeper windshield angles. As for the rear, it has a uniquely-shaped, sloping trunk with an integrated spoiler, complemented by LED tail lights which wrap around the quarter panels.
In terms of dimensions, the 2019 ES measures 4975mm long, 1865mm wide and 1445mm tall. It also has a generous 2870mm wheelbase, a 473-liter trunk space and a 60-liter fuel tank capacity.
For the 2019 ES, Lexus has followed the floating infotainment screen trend by applying it to the large sedan. It features a two-layered design with a flat top and a wraparound fascia. Trimmings then surrounds the top half of the vehicle's cabin. Most of the interior is draped in leather, which is what one would expect from a luxury car. Lastly, the 'mouse' to control the infotainment screen has been replaced by a trackpad.
Both the front and rear seats come with electronic power-adjustable seats, with the latter benefitting from a recline function. Meanwhile, the driver and front passenger seats come with memory function, four-way lumbar support and seat ventilation. While most of the in-car amenities can be controlled through the center console, Lexus still installed a separate control panel for the rear occupants. This allows them to adjust the automatic climate control system, sound system, rear seats and the rear sunshade.
Other special features present in the 2019 ES 350 include a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, in-dash DVD, USB, Aux, Bluetooth, MP3, WMA and smartphone linking infotainment system, built-in navigation system and LED interior lighting.
Under the hood, the 2019 ES 350 is powered by a 3.5-liter naturally-aspirated V6 with Dual VVT-i and D4-S direct injection. The six-cylinder motor generates 300 PS at 6600 rpm along with 357 Nm of torque at 4700 rpm. Power is then sent to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
A wide array of safety features, as well as driver assist systems come as standard equipment for the 2019 ES. Apart from the usual anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BA), vehicle stability (VSC) and traction control (TSC), the ES also benefits from hill-start assist (HSA), blind-spot monitoring (BSM), reverse camera with parking sensors, cruise control and a smart entry system.
The 2019 Lexus ES 350 retails for Php 4,308,000.
