The Philippines used to be a country fixated on sedans. Hatchbacks back then were only seen as budget cars that catered to first time new car buyers or for those looking for a cheap company runaround.
In today's automotive scene however, hatchbacks are now a frequent sight in the country. What were once seen as cheaper alternatives to sedans now command a good share of the market as most hatchbacks nowadays are fitted with premium equipment like automatic climate controls, automatic gearboxes, traction control, alloy wheels and a host of power assisted features.
Mazda recently launched their new 2 sedan/hatchback at the 2015 Manila International Auto Show which now carries the brand's distinct Kodo – Soul of Motion design philosophy along with a SkyActiv powertrain. Looking a bit more aggressive than the outgoing model, we take a look on how the 2015 Mazda2 hatchback measure up against other current hatches in the market, size-wise.
Based on the figures, the Mazda2 is currently the third longest hatchback in the market, just behind the Toyota Yaris and the Hyundai Accent hatch. In terms of width however, it is one of the narrowest ones in the market alongside the Honda Jazz and the Suzuki Swift. The 2015 Mazda2 does feature a decent height figure as it towers against such models like the Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio and Toyota Yaris.

Much like the sedan variant, the 2015 Mazda2 is powered by a 1.5-liter direct-injection SkyActiv-G inline-four that puts out 108 PS and 139 Nm of torque. Power is then delivered to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
