Medical frontliners that frequently drive on San Miguel Corporation's (SMC) expressways will be happy to know that they can pass through Skyway 3 toll-free.
SMC president Ramon S. Ang recently announced that all medical practitioners and frontliners get free passage at the newly-opened roadway indefinitely. That means that even when Skyway 3 starts collecting fees after February 1, all medical frontliners are exempt from paying a toll.
“This time of the pandemic, we need to help our country, our fellow Filipinos, and each other, as much as we can. We have been providing this courtesy to our medical practitioners non-stop because it’s our way of honoring them and thanking them for their selfless efforts to save lives and to help us survive this crisis,” said Ang.
As of January 18, 2021, SMC has waived a total of PHP 156 million in toll fees for doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, and other medical workers. And since mid-June 2020, SMC has been the only toll operator who still implements a 'no toll fees' policy for medical practitioners at STAR Tollway, SLEX, Skyway, NAIAX, and TPLEX.
According to Ang, he expects that some 10,400 medical front liners will be able to pass through Skyway 3 for free daily.
With the proposed toll fees of Skyway Stage 3 possibly amounting to PHP 274 one-way, frontliners can save on toll fees if they need to pass through the elevated roadway.
