Motorists will soon be able to drive on a newly-completed section of the Skyway Stage 3 project. How soon? Well, according to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar, the new Plaza Dilao exit ramp of the Skyway Stage 3 will be open to the public in around two weeks time, just before the month of July ends.
The opening of the new exit ramp will add an additional 4km stretch to the currently open section of the Skyway. This new section starts from the Buendia exit at Pres. Quirino Avenue in Malate, Manila all the way to Plaza Dilao in Paco, Manila.
Do expect this to be first of many new exits to be opened from the Skyway Stage 3 project in the months to come. Villar has previously said that the 18.68-km elevated expressway will be ‘substantially completed’ by the end of the year. By December, expect several new exit ramps to have already been opened. Once completed and fully operational in Q1 of 2020, it is expected to cut down travel time from Buendia in Makati City to Balintawak in Quezon City from two hours to just around 15 to 20 minutes.
The Skyway Stage 3 Project will connect the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) to the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) via an elevated road. This would then eliminate the need for vehicles to pass through major thoroughfares such as EDSA, reducing traffic congestion in these areas.
Villar says that the exact amount of toll for the new Plaza Dilao exit is still being finalized at the moment. For the meantime, the new section of Skyway will remain toll-free.
