Be prepared to endure heavier traffic along the northbound lane of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) near Alabang for the next couple of months.

Recently, SMC Tollways announced that the outermost lane after Alabang Viaduct will be closed to traffic due to the Skyway Extension Project being conducted near Alabang Exit. Closed to all types of vehicles last September 24 at 10:00 PM, the recent closure has caused a major traffic buildup along the expressway.

For now, a stop-and-go traffic scheme has been implemented at the East Service Road (near Kawasaki area) in order for motorists to pass through. However, northbound traffic conditions have continued to worsen as the tail-end of the buildup is now at Eton. That means a 20 km traffic jam (nearly 2 hours) could be waiting for those that plan to go to Manila and beyond via SLEX today and in the coming days.

Due to the heavy traffic congestion the lane closure has caused, SMC Tollways are asking for everyone's understanding because of the heavy traffic build up.

“Hinihingi po namin ang inyong pang unawa. Ang proyekto na ito ay para sa kapakanan nating lahat. Konting tiis lang po. Sa pagtatapos ng proyektong ito, higit pong ginwaha and daloy ng trapiko. Ginagawa po namin ang lahat upang matapos ang construction sa lalong madaling panahon. Salamat po,” [We are asking for your undestanding. This project is for the benefit of all. Please bear with us. When this project is finished, traffic flow will be faster and more comfortable. We are doing everything we can in order for the constructon to be finished at an earlier time. Thank you.] SMC Tollways said in a statement.

With no exact date yet as to when the closed lane will be opened once again, traffic during rush hour along SLEX could become a long waiting game and a test of patience. Let's just hope that the Skyway Extension Project will be completed soon just before the Holiday Rush officially begins.
