Passing through Pasig City roads could soon be faster and more convenient.
With just a few weeks left before the looming deadline imposed by the Department of Interior & Local Government (DILG), newly-elected Mayor Vico Sotto reminded the residents of Pasig City that all streets have to be cleared of obstructions.
Under a new memorandum that was signed a few weeks ago, Sotto ordered all barangays to remove all obstructions along public roads immediately. Upon receiving the memorandum, all barangay chairpersons will have to conduct road clearing operations in order to ensure that no streets will be impeded.
In addition, Sotto also advised residents that closing of public roads is illegal. Any barangay personnel that will allow the closure of these streets can either be suspended or charged.
“Bawal magsara ng mga pampublikong kalsada. May mga barangay na nagbebenta pa ng sticker. Narinig niyo na ang direktiba ni Presidente Duterte. Natanggap niyo na rin ang DILG Memorandum at ang Memorandum mula sa akin nung ika-30 ng Hulyo,” said Sotto.
[“The closure of public roads is not allowed. There are even barangays that give out stickers. All of you heard the directive of President Duterte. All of you have received the DILG Memorandum, as well as the Memorandum that came from me last July 30”]
With the road clearing operations expected to decongest traffic in the city, Sotto is hopeful that this will further alleviate the worsening traffic conditions in Pasig. And with the retraining of its traffic enforcers already underway, better traffic flow and proper imposing of traffic rules & regulations will further help motorists be on their way.
As the rest of the Metro Manila Mayors continue to free up road space, Vico Sotto is adamant to rid the city of any hindrance that will congest Pasig. Here's to the Mayor for trying to make a difference.
