Want a full-size SUV that doles out more than 400 PS, corners better and can stop on a dime? Look no further as Chevrolet recently launched the sporty 2019 Suburban RST. Short for Rally Sport Truck, the special edition SUV gets a myriad of upgrades like a bigger V8, improved suspension and better stopping power.
“The RST Performance Package made its debut on the Tahoe RST last spring, and the response from our customers was overwhelmingly positive. In fact, Tahoe RST with the Performance Package is the fastest-turning Tahoe model, and we’ve received customer requests to offer the same performance and power to Suburban RST. Delivering on those requests with the Suburban RST Performance Package is another example of how Chevrolet has continually invested in the segment, developing models with combinations of capability, technology and performance to meet the needs of different customers,” said Sandor Piszar, Director of Chevy Trucks Marketing and Advertising.
To be made available soon, the 2019 Suburban RST gets a 6.2-liter V8 that develops 426 PS and 624 Nm of torque. The engine also benefits from continuously variable valve timing, active fuel management and direct injection for better torque / power delivery across the rev band. Power is then sent to the wheels via a ten-speed automatic transmission.
Complementing the V8 is the optional Peformance Dual-Side Exit exhausts made by Borla. According to Chevrolet, it will improve exhaust flow by 28-percent, deliver better fuel mileage free up more horses from the eight-cylinder engine. Better brakes, on the other hand, come courtesy of Brembo. It consist of lightweight six-piston aluminum calipers at the front that clamp on to 16.1-inch Duralife rotors.
Apart from those upgrade, there is also Magnetic Ride Control which actively adjusts the dampers every millisecond. The result is a suspension that not only delivers better cornering ability, but improved ride quality as well. When fitted with the optional Performance Package, the Suburban RST also gets increased body control for even higher levels of responsiveness and comfort.
Like the Tahoe RST from last year, the Suburan RST also gets the same exterior styling and equipment. Massive 22-inch alloys wrapped in 285/45 tires adorn the wheel wells while blacked-out trim pieces give the SUV a more striking appearance. Don't like chrome? Chevy will remove all of the chrome trim via the optional Performance Package. Both the front grill surround and the door handles will be finished in body color while the grill itself and the mirror caps will be painted gloss black.
Full specifications of the 2019 Suburban RST will be released at a later date.
