Subaru has a more powerful WRX STI in the works, but it won’t be coming to the Philippines or anywhere else in the world for that matter. In fact, it will only be offered exclusively in Subaru's home country, Japan. Officially called the TC380, it is based on the current-generation VAB WRX STI chassis, but packs a lot more punch. More so, it is tuned and built in collaboration with Subaru rally driver Toshihiro Arai and HKS.

From afar, the TC380 looks like any other standard WRX STI you’d see on the road minus the factory STI wing. Up close however, you’d see that it features a unique carbon fiber front spoiler to reduce air resistance and a lone TC380 badge at the rear. Inside, there is more TC380 badging found on the dashboard and a serial plate just below the shifter. The factory STI seats have also been replaced with Recaro SR-6 seats with the TC380 logo embroidered on the center. A TC380 number plate inside the engine bay complete the transition from a standard WRX STI.

Under the hood, the modifications made to the 2.0-liter EJ20 engine were specially selected by Toshihiro Arai himself. The stock turbo has been switched out for an HKS GTIII unit which increases both power and response. An HKS catalytic converter coupled with an HKS exhaust complete the power modifications. Power is then sent to all-four-wheels thanks using a 6-speed manual transmission. The rest of the drivertrain and suspension appears to have been left unmodified.

As of writing, Subaru has not revealed the power figures of the TC380 simply writing ‘unmeasured’. Considering the name however, it won’t be surprising if it did produce 380 horsepower. For reference, the standard WRX STI produces 308 horsepower while the limited-run S208 produced 324 horsepower. Vehicle weight was also not revealed and neither were performance figures.

The TC380 is limited to 50 units and is priced at 4,965,840 yen (Php 2,300,000). Each one will come with a unique leather key holder and a vehicle verification case, both of which are finished in the same World Rally Blue.
