Spied: 2018 Aston Martin Vantage seen with prototype body

Aston Martin busy testing all-new Vantage prototype at the Ring

It has been nearly a year since we last saw Aston Martin testing what appeared to be a test mule for the next-gen Vantage slated for 2018. It will apparently be underpinned by a shortened aluminum platform of the DB11 and will still be available with either a V8 or V12 powerplant.

Fast forward to today, and it looks like the Gaydon-based automaker has finally come up with a prototype design. Spotted doing rounds at the Nurbugring, the new-generation Vantage follows the design direction of the DB11.

It gets the familiar headlight design from the DB11, as well as the sharp-looking taillights. The wheels almost look the same too from the DB11. The only thing that makes it different from its bigger sibling is its smaller size.

Like its previous iteration, the new Vantage is expected to retain its 2-seater layout compared to the DB11's 2+2 configuration. Moreover, the interior design of the DB11 may also rub off on the upcoming 2018 Vantage.

Power is expected to come from the new 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8s sourced from Mercedes-AMG and from the 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 built by Aston Martin. Transmission options may include a 6-speed manual or a new automatic gearbox.

It is highly likely that Aston Martin will reveal the all-new Vantage before the year's end. The roadster version of the 2018 Vantage may follow suit after several months.
