The Chevrolet Corvette may soon get a new high-performance model that sits above the Z06. Spotted by our spy photographers, the test mule seen here gets body upgrades, leading to the assumption that this will be the C7 ZR1.
With a heavily camouflaged front end, it is possible that the upcoming Corvette ZR1 will have a unique fascia. Looking through the disguise, one will notice a bigger “power bulge” on the hood, suggesting more power. Openings on the car cover hint that this car is turbocharged with extra intakes for added cooling. On to its side, it gets the previous generation's signature blue brake calipers as well as larger rotors. The liftgate meanwhile hides what could be mounting points for a rear spoiler.
The interior appears to be completely undisguised. From above, one will see a red accent that runs from the driver's side to the center console. Another bright red piece of trim for the passenger side can also be seen. Following in the tradition of higher-performance Corvettes, expect unique details exclusive for this particular model.
At the time of writing, it is yet unknown what will power the next ZR1 Corvette. Our spy's sources told them that it will be called the LT5, perhaps a tribute to the first Corvette ZR1 which was sold in the 90's. The source adds that the new engine will be a twin-turbo V8 unlike its predecessor's supercharged mill. Also seen during this test run was a Camaro test mule, possibly the Z/28.
