Spied: 2018 Ford Expedition testing with production body

New Expedition sees aluminum body, potential ecoboost motor options

While the past months have seen varying test mules of the new 2018 Ford Expedition, our spies have recently found the next-gen Expedition likely sporting its new body intended for production.

Much like the Ford F150, this new Expedition is expected to ride on the new T3 truck chassis and will likely have an aluminum body in an effort to save weight. An updated version of the 3.5L ecoboost motor will likely find its way underneath the Expedition’s sizeable bonnet.

Some sources indicate as well that the Ford’s new SUV may come with a 2.7L ecoboost engine for its base model as well. Either way however, both motors will likely be paired to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. The bigger news as far as the Expedition’s powertrain goes is the fact that we might see a hybrid version of the 3.5L ecoboost motor as early as 2019.

In terms of styling, the Expedition will likely take after the F150, though in these photos the heavy camo makes it look a bit boxy. It appears though that the windscreen has more rake in the interest of aerodynamics.

The new Expedition is expected to make its debut at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show.
