With the new Peugeot 508 set to be released by 2018, the folks from Peugeot appear to be busy working on it already. From the looks of it, they’ve already begun testing the 508 in the form of a rather stretched 308 test mule.

A quick glance at the car may dismiss the common onlooker, but our spies have identified it as a mule since it has wider fenders and an evidently longer wheelbase. Based off the photos, looking at the rear section of the car past the rear doors leaves a hint of where the welds were made to ‘extend’ the 308 test mule.

Given they’re testing a vehicle that’s supposed to be longer and bigger than the 308, it’s safe to say that this may well be a development car for the upcoming 508. Peugeot have previously stated that the new 508 will make its debut sometime in 2018, and sources indicate that the four-door version may likely have coupe-like proportions instead of a conventional sedan. Nonetheless, the SW (wagon) version of the 508 will likely remain.

No further details have been linked to this new Peugeot, however sources indicate that the new 508 may come with a new array of safety tech as well as partial autonomous driving capabilities.
