Rolls-Royce's all-new SUV goes to the Nurburgring for agility, comfort test

The Nurburgring would be the last place one might find a Rolls-Royce, or so you think. Yes it's true, the Goodwood-based luxury brand was recently spotted at the Green Hell testing their upcoming SUV, the Cullinan.

It is Rolls-Royce's answer to the Bentley Bentayga and is dubbed by the company as a 'High-Sided Vehicle' (HSV). Last seen being tested in cold weather conditions, it looks like automaker was busy checking to see if the ride quality and air suspension of the new Cullinan was up to scratch.

While the Cullinan does still roll, the new air suspension seems to be doing a very good job of maintaining the SUV's balance as it went through the corners. Despite the camo livery, we do get to see the signature headlights and front grill, and the box-like profile of the Cullinan. It is also nice to see that the upcoming SUV will come with the brand's signature coach doors.

Based off the plaform of the next-gen Phantom (which was also caught by our spies last June 2017), the Cullinan will be underpinned by a new lightweight aluminum spaceframe. However, it looks like the frame has been shortened for the Cullinan . It is also most likely have been rated to go off-road much like Bentley's Bentayga. To be honest however, it's highly unlikely that owners of the Cullinan will take this off the beaten path.

Do expect a high-output V12 to drive the all-new Cullinan. Although a plug-in hybrid may also be available soon as parent company BMW is also busy broadening its hybrid and electric powertrain.

The upcoming Rolls-Royce Cullinan could have its world debut come 2018.
