Next-gen Mercedes-AMG A45 undergoes hot weather shakedown

Last month, our spies sent us photos of what is said to be the most powerful A-Class built to date, the 2019 Mercedes-AMG A45. Though still undergoing testing, there are some particular cues which set the prototype apart from its non-AMG counterparts. In this latest batch of photos, our spies have once again caught the A45 prototype undergoing testing, but now sports more camouflage on its front fascia.

Most noticably, the Panamericana grill, which is found on AMG models, is now hidden behind a crisscross pattern grill. Earlier spy photos showed a design more similar to that of AMG's signature grill. The air intake holes seen on the bumper are also asymmetric, as they are only found on one side.

On to its side, there are also wider fenders to fit the larger, sportier wheels and possibly cater to a unique suspension arrangement specifically for the A45. The prototype also sports larger wheels and hides the large caliper brakes behind them.

As for the rear, not much has changed since the last time our spies spotted the A45. The rear bumper appears to be lacking, indicating a possible diffuser on the production model. The exhaust pipes also look basic with a single-pipe, twin exit design compared to the usual more aggressive exhaust.

Details regarding the A45's powertrain has been scarce, but our spies says that it will output more than 400 PS. 4Matic all-wheel drive is expected to come standard, with a manual option highly unlikely. The 2019 AMG A45 is expected to hit dealers late 2018 or early 2019.
