Next-gen 3 Series spied sporting production lights

As early as last year, our spies have been keeping a close eye on the next-generation BMW 3 Series. The last update we got was back in December 2016 with the car wearing an M Sport kit. Now, our spies have a new set of photos for us which reveals more details on the upcoming all-new 3 Series.

Internally known as the G20, this model marks the seventh-generation of the 3 Series line. In these batch of pictures, there is a clearer view of its headlights and a better idea of what the front fascia might look like. Seen here is a larger grill, noticeably bigger than the ones used in the current 3 Series (F30).

The headlights have also been significantly reshaped to resemble those on the 7 Series and 5 Series. A closer look at the headlights also shows that it is sporting the ones that will be used for production. As expected, the signature 'Angel Eyes' make their way to the 2019 3 Series.

Turning to its side, the signature 'Hoffmeister Kink' can be seen in the rear window while the general profile of the car still follows the form of the F30 generation. The swirl-themed camouflage hides a lot of details but a defined character line can be seen running through the door handles. Also seen are a set of sporty-looking alloy wheels and, behind them, big brakes.

It also looks like this particular test car is using production tail lights as well. Looking at the past reports, those cars did not come with LED lighting at the back. This time around, we see an LED strip and what appears to be LED turn signal lights. It is likely that these lights will follow the shape of its larger stablemates. Also, the twin exhaust pipes hint that this test car is powered by a six-cylinder engine.

Engine details have yet to be confirmed but expect the next-gen 3 Series to be powered by updated versions of the current range. For gas engines, it starts with a 1.5-liter, three cylinder turbo and stretches to a 3.0-liter, inline-six, also turbocharged. As for diesels, there's the four-cylinder 2.0-liter unit and the six-cylinder 3.0-liter engine. With BMW investing in electric and hybrid power, it is likely that the 2019 3 Series will come with a plug-in hybrid model as well.
