Poised to compete against the likes of the Porsche Panamera, the Audi S7/RS7, and the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, the upcoming Mercedes AMG GT4 distinguishes itself as a four-door with a coupe-like profile. With a sloping roofline to emulate that of a coupe, the Mercedes AMG GT4 will have a large rear hatch much like that of the S7 and the Panamera.
Powering this new saloon will be the same powerplant found in the E63, a 600PS 4.0 twin turbo V8. Considering the GT4 shares the same MRA longitudinal engine, rear-wheel drive platform as the E63, this comes as a predictable move. The GT4 however has a wider track, lower body, and of course an entirely different look thanks to its roofline.
Thanks to its shared platform, it comes natural to find the GT4’s interior is almost identical to the E63 as well. As the production model will likely see a 600PS V8, the concept version of the AMG GT4 was presented with a hybrid powertrain churning out 800PS.
That’s not to say that we’ll get a version with those numbers, but at least it leaves a good hint that hybrid propulsion may be in the cards for the GT4 in the near future.
All that’s said, we can expect the AMG GT4 to make its official debut later this year or early in 2018.
