Spied: All new Audi Q3 testing with S-line prototype parts

New interior, updated fascias in store for next-gen Audi Q3

Considering Volkswagen Group’s new MQB platform is probably their most versatile platform to date, it’s no surprise that they’ve been busy testing Audi models that come in many different shapes and sizes based off their modular platform. Today our spies have shown us the upcoming compact crossover that Audi have built upon the MQB platform – the Q3.

In this case though, our keen-eyed spies have noticed that the Q3 is sporting rather aggressive fascias up front and at the back. If this is any indication, this particular mule can well be an SQ3 in the making. Despite hinting at a sportier version of the Q3, our spies are quick to point out that if this is the case Audi have done a very good job at hiding its quad-tip exhaust pipes. Based off their single snap of the rather covered interior, we can only see that the instrument cluster is fully digital. That besides, the infotainment system and climate control knobs are the only visible items on the dash.

Seeing as the Volkswagen Tiguan is the most similar in body to the Audi Q3, we can expect the upcoming crossover from Audi to mirror the powertrain options that the current generation of Tiguan is running. Perhaps the SQ3 will be fitted with a 2.0L Turbo four cylinder pushing a bit over 300PS much like the Audi S3. There is also  mention of a VW Tiguan mule sounding much like a 5-cylinder among our spies, so the possibility of having an RSQ3 with a 2.5L 5-cylinder much like in the RS3 may very well be considered.

A plug-in Hybrid version for the Q3 doesn’t look to be in the forseeable future as the Q3 can mainly be expected to come with conventional powerplants powering either the front wheels or using Audi’s signature Quattro all-wheel drive system for its more expensive models.

The Audi Q3 is expected to make its debut sometime during summer or autumn of 2018.
