Spied: Audi begins testing of high-performance RS7 Sportback

The sportier and faster Audi RS7 heads out for testing

A few months back, Audi introduced the all-new A7 Sportback. The new five-door liftback featured improved styling coupled with a bolder look. With the A7's reveal complete, the German marque now appears to have begun development on its high-performance counterpart, the RS7 Sportback.

Recently seen by our spies, the vehicle in question might look like a standard A7 from afar, especially since most of the badging has been left as it is. However, there are noticeably some parts fitted on to this specific A7 that aren't standard-issue equipment. More so, factory options.

Starting with the most obvious difference, there are the masssive brake rotors and calipers fitted behind the wheels. The car also sports widened wheel arches to accommodate the fatter tires situated on all four corners. At the rear, the lower part of the bumper has been cut out inorder to fit large oval exhausts. Though some may argue that this A7 could have just been fitted aftermarket modifications, it is highly unlikely. Looking closely, there are wires running up the left side of the vehicle to a sensor on the roof, indicating that it is a factory test mule.

With the RS7 already undergoing testing, expect camouflaged variants to been seen in the following months, hiding the key differences between it and the standard A7. Power is expected to come from a twin-turbo V8 powertrain which produces 650 PS and sends power to all four wheels. Word from our spies say that the RS7 could also be going hybrid, utilizing the same setup as the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.

As the A7 was only revealed recently, expect the RS7 to hit the market in late 2018.
