Newest crossover from Audi gains S model
Fresh from its debut from the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, It would appear that Audi already has a high -performance version lined up for the Q2. The latest set of spy shots sent to us confirms a sporty model that is already far in development for Audi's latest crossover.
Called the SQ2, it was spotted completely free of camouflage while doing hot laps around the Nurburgring. While the body is unchanged from the standard Q2, the SQ2 adds a few styling details that separate it from its more sedate counterpart. First is a blacked-out front bumper unique to the S model with functional air intakes.
The SQ2 also rides a little lower than the standard models, giving the car a more aggressive stance, as well as a lower center of gravity to enhance handling. Like the lower air intake, the grill is fully blacked-out as well. At the rear, a set of quad exhaust pipes differentiates the SQ2 from the standard Q2's single or dual exhaust. It also gets a diffuser for the rear bumper as well.
The SQ2 rides on a different set of wheel that are lower in profile and the C-pillar is finished in matt black instead of the standard model's silver.
Power will be provided by a turbocharged 2.0 liter four cylinder. The engine is derived from Audi's high-performance C-segment entry, the S3. While there are no specifics regarding output, the same engine in the S3 puts out 300 PS and 380 Nm of torque.
It is also likely that it will get the same transmission choices as the S3. These include a six-speed manual or six-speed dual clutch transmission which Audi calls S-Tronic. Like all S models from Audi, Quattro all-wheel drive will be standard for the SQ2.
