Spied:BMW 8 Series prototype spotted with production lights

BMW busy testing upcoming 8 Series, gets new production headlights and taillights

It was back in May 2017 when BMW revealed the Concept 8 Series. It essentially previewed an all-new GT coupe that will apparently go into production in 2018. There will even be more powerful versions of the coupe as well in the form of the M8 and M8 GTE. In fact, BMW gave us a glimpse on what will the new 8 Series look like after showing a heavily camouflaged M8 in a production body.

Now, our spies were able to take new pictures on what looked to be a standard 8 Series prototype. Compared to the previous shots our insiders took back in March 2017, the camouflaged 8 Series seen here now has production headlights and taillights fittted.

Up close, the 8 Series' new set of headlights resemble the ones BMW is currently using on other production models. It gets LED daytime running lights as well as what look to be laser-powered headlights. The dual kidney front grill, as well as the front bumper, also appear to have been given a mild revision.

Towards the rear, the prototype GT's production taillights somewhat resemble the ones used on the concept version albeit smaller. Given the heay camouflage, BMW may have hid portions of the taillight as the car is still is being worked on. Retained, however are the large hexagonal dual exhaust pipes which could mean this model is hiding a six-cylinder under the hood.

According to our spies, BMW has already trademarked the names 825, 830, 850, 860 and M850. This could mean that the 8 Series will be available with four, six, eight and maybe even twelve cylinder engines. The M8 GTE, on the other hand, will supposedly see the return of BMW to Le Mans racing but not before making its racing debut at the 2018 Daytona 24 Hours in January of next year.
