At the upcoming Los Angeles Motor Show, BMW will officially debut the much awaited i8 Roadster. However, could another variant be debuting as well in the form of the i8 S or a facelifted i8 Coupe. This is comes after spy shots were sent to us showing a partly-camouflaged i8 sporting minor tweaks in its aero.
By subtle tweaks, we really mean subtle. At first glance, the i8 prototype seen appears like any other i8. However if you look closely at the lower part of the front bumper, a lip spoiler has been installed on this test mule. The hood is also covered hiding the hole, similar to that found on i8 Roadster prototypes. At the rear, it appears as though a small rear spoiler has been added in between the taillights. Apart from these subtle tweaks, no other changes have been made to the rest of the i8's body.
Those with a keen eye would have also spotted that this specific prototype is also equipped with amber corner lights found on the side of the front and rear bumpers. This indicates that this prototype is likely intened for the United States market as these markers are usually required only in the US, futher implying the possiblity of it debuting at the LA Auto Show.
Should this be the rumored i8 S, our spies mention that power could also get a bump likely up to 450 PS. If this is merely a facelift however, it could also get a 10-percent power increase thanks to an upgraded electric powertrain, likely pushing power up to 420 PS. Other upgrades that could be found include an upgraded iDrive infotainment with gesture control.
For now, we will just have to wait whether an updated i8 Coupe or the i8 S will also debut with the i8 Roadster at the upcoming LA Auto Show this end of November.
