Earlier this year, BMW gave us a preview of the upcoming X2. At the time, it wore a unique disguise called Urban Camouflage with the intention of making a bolder statement and adding excitement for its upcoming world premiere. It also lacked any noticeable faux-panels, giving us a clearer image of the what X2's final design would be.
Now, our spies have once again seen the X2 touring the roads, possibly undergoing final tests and preparations for its global reveal. The X2 still sports its unique Urban Camouflage albeit with a different color scheme, which was said to be used during the Milan Fashion Week.
Overall the body of the X2 appears to have no apparent changes compared to the official photos released by BMW themselves. The prototype seen by our spies however sports a different front bumper than that photographed by BMW. The one seen here sports a more aggressive look with sharper intake vents compared to the one-piece lower intake revealed prior. Furthermore, the fog light housing on both bumpers are also different, leading us to suspect the prototype seen here could be a higher-end variant.
The rear bumper tells a similar story, with more the lower part revealing more details such as the reflector placement. Though the rest of the body is still covered, its lines and style will likely remain the same even until the production model is revealed. Expect black body cladding to run the lenght of the sides to give it more rugged look.
Based on the X1, the X2 also rides on BMW's front-wheel drive UKL platform, which is also used on Mini's. Do expect a similar range of engine options including both diesels and gasolines found on the X1 to be available on the X2, with xDrive all-wheel drive as an option.
