With the next-gen X3 testing well underway, BMW appears to be simultaneously testing the updated X4 SUV/Coupe that will be based off the same platform. While we’ve only previously seen the X4 loaded up on a trailer, our spies have now caught the odd SUV out and about in Munich dressed in full camo.
Considering that the X3 has long been in the works, the X4 shouldn’t take as long in development given that they’re based off the same platform – with its roofline being the only difference. From the looks of it, the X4 follows the trend of coupe-shaped SUVs that was started by its bigger brother, the X6.
For its segment though, the X4 may well be squared against the Mercedes Benz GLC which, oddly enough, the X4 has a lot of similarities to especially for its rear profile. Since it is still heavily camouflaged however, it’s difficult to see any keen details of the rear profile so we’ll have to wait till it sheds a little more.
Engine and powertrain options will likely be carried from the X3 even towards the hotter X4M in the future. That said, we can expect the refreshed X4 to debut sometime in late 2017.
